How Internet of Things will Transform the Contact Centers Operations

For staying connected with the customers, the contact centers are the means through which organizations are able to do so, since years. Although it has evolved quite much over the years, it is expected to grow with the growth of Internet of Things.

The Internet of Things refers to a network of daily objects imbibing technology, enabling to collect and exchange data. This technology is believed to transform how the contact centers work, entirely. Here’s how the change would look like:-
  • Better Data Attainment and Procurement
One of the great benefits of Internet of Things is its ability to procure accurate and large amount of data from sensors, wearable and actuators. Information regarding technicality of a product or behavior of customer will cause a brand to gain insight about how their products are being used by all and on that ground, how they can further develop it in order to improve the experience of customer.
  •  Active solutions
The information and data is received by the contact centers through several channels and very soon Internet of Things will help them by allowing the devices to automatically track the problems and notify the manufacturer about the same. Then, there will be no need for the customers to go for inbound call centers. Rather than that companies and organizations will be able to pay heed to the issues and solve them before they even happen and implement the solutions beforehand.

  •  Self Diagnosing Solutions
Even before the users get aware of the issue, the gadgets connected will have the ability to solve and report its own flaws to the manufacturer. This will help reduce not only the call volumes but also the costs. However, it is predicted that because of this, the average handling time will shoot up due to the fact that technical problems need to be discussed in detail.
  •  Experts Handling the Issues
Until now, agents of the contact centers generally just react to the queries or complaints of the customers but Internet of Things will allow them to provide better equipped remedies. Human communication is vital no matter the connected devices has the capability to diagnose and report the problems. The agents are experts and now are expected to raise the level of handling the problems apart from the technology’s abilities.

  • Multiple Channel Growth
Customers like to have multiple channels through which they can reach the brands without any problem. Companies treat it as a challenge to have multi-channels. Through the advent of IoT, customers can hit the contact button with their devices for e.g. car, refrigerator, etc and the organizations will have to pick up how to balance it to continue allowing the satisfied service extended to the users.
  • Better Experience for Customers
It is expected from IoT that it will improve the quality of care the brand provides the clients. It will reduce the need of the customers to call agents and wait in long queues for their issues to get resolved and reported. Similarly, the data collected from the devices connected will allow the brands to not only improve the products and services but also equipping their agents in how to better handle the queries and complaints thereby making the customer service more quick and efficient.

In today’s world, where customer service should be exceptional in order to stand out in from the crowd, IoT is predicted to provide businesses and organizations the ability to offer great value to the customers. Those brands which can capitalize on this and successfully implement IoT into their customer care can take their brand to a fully different level.

Designing for Internet of Things? Things to keep in mind

The work of designers and developers are growing as ever. Its scope is getting wider day by day. Designing, building applications or websites sat in retreat, now it’s time to think about integration of things with digital ecosystem that have become a vital part of user’s lives.

Internet of Things has further widened the scope. Responsible for forming interfaces of physical products, we may end up designing surfaces, control and shapes. Designing user interfaces which may be able to control complicated parts of hardware such as to fly up in the air, cook food or housecleaning.

Following are some of the few aspects of products and services which are part of user interface that forms the user experience:
  • How exactly the users get to know about the interfaces and how they learn more about it? How exactly the users get to know about the interfaces and how they learn more about it? Through advertising? If yes, then which method- online? Offline or a combination? Or through social media, or word of mouth through real life networks?
Real life instances include a combination of these things, so what are these blends and how are they formed and gets modified over time. What are the main situations where the users decide to invest in the interfaces? Questions regarding where the users go to learn more, what do they identify in your products and services, how it helps them form a decision and finally what are their expectations that gets carried across when once they start using the product.
  • The medium through the users gets the interface and how they pay for it. Think about the mix of application stores, brick and mortar shops, online ordering apps and partnership or referrals. There are many payment models from which the users can choose involving one off purchasing, subscriptions, licensing, renewals and premiums. Understanding what these payment modes mean to the users as well as to the clients is important from business point of view. Also observe the user experience using these channels. Some aspects we can control and some we can’t.

  •  The experience of installing and getting started with interface. Take into consideration the packaging, documentation, instructions, on boarding and delivery dependencies and requirements for instance requirement of a Smartphone, etc., integration with ecosystems or other applications. Apart from these, other elements to be taken into consideration are installation and significance on designing of integrated things into user’s environment like home, office, car, etc.
  • How users can get the help and support will include channels which are within our control (e-mails, phone lines, social media or chat with representatives) and also those which we do not have control on, or little control like third party forums, friends, peers, etc. sometimes we have to give users the support and other times we have to take support from them. Users can choose a mix of channels either by choice or because they don’t have other option.

  • Security, friendly experience and well-being of users are based on the designs of the interface. Errors and problems are to be dealt seriously. The designers should understand what might go wrong and how the interface reports, alerts and recover from these errors.
  • How to update interface? We are used to update the applications and operating systems. Similarly, web applications and websites transforms as they gets upgraded. If there is software into the interface which has safety issue, how the users are going to learn regarding the issue? And what if there is no such thing through which we can initiate and monitor an update.

Hidden Agenda Backing The Shift Towards Internet Of Things And Its Future

Internet of things still appears as futuristic concept for many people. But the thing is that it’s already here, improving lives on a universal level. Business Insider predicted that device’s connectivity with the internet will hike by 28% from 10 billion devices in 2015 to a whooping 34 billion by 2020.

The concept is rather simple. Multiple devices, machines and appliances connected with each other through multiple networks involving the use of internet in order to provide businesses and customers, new opportunities and services. For instance, the need for measuring bills or vending machines providing 24*7 services from never ending supply chain can be wiped out by smart energy meters.

Corporate giants and industries can employ Internet of Things as healthcare which gives the patient the freedom to get monitored in real time from their respective homes and smart cities. As well as letting the drivers know, where a parking can be found.

Through IOT, billions of devices and sensors like industrial equipments and objects are connected with networks. Thus the data in high volumes are collected and logged. Then the inputs are blended and analyzed and finally transformed into visions of increased efficiency and quick decision making.

The scientists are keen on specifics and science backing the IOT. However, most of the customers just want the technology to work for them and to be discreet and unnoticeable as it can be. So, the things on which the consumers depend on a daily basis like transportation, energy, healthcare, IOT enable the devices to connect to these and restrict the unpredicted downtime. Consumers must also understand that how it all gets operated.

Merits/ Demerits of IOT

There are several advantages as well as disadvantages potentially which occurs when the IOT gets developed and adopted. The prime merit is automation where data analysis engines converts billions of data in a world of connected devices, all interacting with each other, and make decisions on behalf of the consumers. With automation, comes efficiency and cost reduction which further results in improved quality of everyday life.

In contrast to this, increased automation can be a threat especially as it could lead to few job opportunities in the market. Enterprises will aim their resources for maintenance and prioritize jobs based on their importance. This way, some jobs will become automated. You just require a workforce with a separate style of skill set, careers with deep skills and engagements around variety of industries.

Key area to focus is data security when devices are connected and when we talk about IOT. Financial and bank related data hold more concerns rather than data related to televisions and washing machines. To make sure that user data is secure and safe, tight security has to be initiated for IOT adoption to grow.

Which Connected Tech is Available?

There’s a huge variety of technology connected that is already available to businesses and consumers similarly affecting enterprises in many industries. To build small cities, retail and advertising sectors, smart energy like street lights, meters, EV charging might be introduced. Also it can be initiated for healthcare and industrial facilities like oil factory corporations and gas.

For this, the transit and portability gets affected by IOT, by connecting cars, railways, trucks and logistics organizations. By reducing the traffic congestion, emissions, and road accidents, manufacturing businesses will gets affected.

White goods such as watches, appliances, door locks & glasses, have already adopted IOT. Consumer goods with wearable technology have been impacted by IOT on a large scale already.

Approaching IOT

Subsequently and eventually everything is going to get affected by IOT or going to be changed by it. Because of the major elements of IOT has come together, this opportunity has been made possible. The elements include social networking, mobility, data and analytics, reduced cost and connectivity.

It also allows bringing together the objects which have not yet connected already. These things are building large amount of data and communicating through machines. The prediction has been made that by 2020, 250 million vehicles are going to be connected to the internet. This development and innovative drive is because of the technology and consumer demand which is fueling the revolution of IOT.
